Is gardening a hobby you enjoy? Is your ideal Saturday spent planting flowers, cultivating herbs or vegetables, or just pruning and weeding? If so, potting tables are probably must-have items for your hobby.

A garden potting table can be purchased in a wide variety of sizes. You can purchase a potting table that is just large enough to hold a couple of items, or a very large potting table that can hold lots of plants, fertilizer, tools and other things.

Some potting tables have drawers, which are a great convenience for anyone with a green thumb. If your potting table has a drawer, you may want to organize it in the same way that you would organize a kitchen drawer. Purchase utensil dividers or organizers to help keep things in a logical place. A well-stocked potting table will ease frustration and backache by making your tools and accessories more accessible.

Many potting tables have shelves built into them. Before putting lots of heavy things on the shelves, like fertilizer bags or mulch, be sure you know the weight limit of the shelves. With some potting tables, the shelves are more for decoration than for performance.

You can also organize gardening tools by putting hooks into the potting table. Some tables come with hooks or wall-areas that are perfect for hooks. By putting your tools on hooks, you will have easy access and visibility.

Potting tables are often built out of wood, usually teak or cedar. Teak is a wood that can be cut and shaped easily, making it a wood of choice for outdoor furniture manufacturers. Over time, teak usually weathers from a golden brown to a gray color. For centuries, teak was used in the building of ships. It has a natural ability to withstand harsh monsoons and high humidity, making it ideal for outdoor furniture and tables.

Cedar, most often red cedar, is also weather resistant. The oil and chemicals found naturally in cedar makes it quite resistant to pests and insects. Cedar has a natural aroma that many people find pleasing. Due to its brilliant color, cedar does not normally need painted or stained. Cedar is also a popular wood for use in pool areas, spas and saunas. Cedar is free of pitch and resin, so you do not have to worry about getting anything sticky on your clothing. Cedar also dries very quickly.

A garden potting table can be a small investment or a large one. You can usually buy a basic potting table for a small amount. If you are a serious gardener, you may want to invest in a heavy duty potting table that will hold lots of stuff. Potting tables can also be purchased with wheels, which makes it much easier to move the garden potting table from place to place.

After you have purchased your garden potting table, look around your outdoor area to find a suitable place to put it. You may want to keep it in a potting shed, under the eaves of your home or under some other covered area. This will help protect your table from harsh weather.
