If you have a green thumb, you probably enjoy spending your free time in your garden. For many, gardening is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. Some people participate in gardening as a way to relax or clear their minds. Whatever the reason, if you enjoy gardening as a hobby, your probably have lots of gardening accessories.
Potting tables are a must-have for many serious gardeners. Potting tables offer many advantages including:
- A potting table is a great place to hang hooks for gardening tools. Some tables come with hooks already installed, or have holes in them where the buyer can easily install hooks. This is a great way to be able to see all your tools at once and keep them within an easy reach.
- Potting tables help prevent backaches. If you don't own a potting table, you probably know how back breaking gardening work can be. The digging, planting, moving and shifting takes a toll on the human body, especially the back. A potting table is built to be at waist high, to avoid unnecessary bending. All of your necessary items can be kept on the potting table, making it a great convenience.
- Potting tables are often made of wood that is weather resistant. Teak is a common wood used for potting tables. It is often used in saunas, spaces or pool decking. It does not warp or rot from water, yet is pliable and easy to shape. Cedar, another wood used frequently on furniture and tables, is also water resistant. The natural aroma and oils in cedar make it resistant to pests, insects, moths and other creatures.
- A potting table can be purchased with wheels, making it easy to move from place to place. For many gardeners, a potting table without wheels would be unthinkable. Like a wheelbarrow, the wheels on a potting table make it easy to perform tasks in an expedited manner.
Many big box stores and home and garden centers sell garden potting tables. The cost of a table can range from small to significant, depending on size and quality.
Some tables are equipped with one or more pull out drawers, making this a handy way to keep small or loose items. You may want to consider organizing the drawers by installing special drawer section organizers, usually available in the house wares department of any store. Seeds, loose bulbs and other small items can also be kept in clear jars with lids and labeled with a description of the items it contains.
If you decide to purchase a table, be sure to find a good place to store it over the cold winter months. Ideal places would be anywhere under a roof or inside a shed or garage. If you don't have an ideal storage place, at least cover the potting table with a heavy-duty plastic tarp when the growing season comes to an end. This will help ensure many years of long lasting life with your potting table.
